CFC Tuesday Morning Ride From Hampstead (8:30AM - 11:00AM)

"Hampstead to Sloop Point Loop"

Everyone needs to plan on arriving 15 minutes before the ride is scheduled to ROLL OUT.

Meet ready to ride on Hwy 17 (about 1.5 mi. north of Rte. 210 in Hampstead Center), on the right at the Exxon-Scotchman at the Country Club Road traffic light. It will take about 30-45 minutes from most areas of Wilmington. Park at back left of the building. Rest room available.

Ride coordinator(s):

This is a 30 mi. round trip with shorter or longer options available. The route has become a favorite of our regular riders. It is mostly flat terrain with nice views of the Intra-coastal Waterway and Virginia Creek. Map is available here for anyone unfamiliar with this ride. The rest stop is a convenience store at about the 17 mile point, and we usually plan for some post-ride social time at the bagel shop across the street.

Distance & pace (usually 20-30 miles at 12-18 mph) will be determined by those who participate. Sometimes we split into two groups, but we regroup at convenient points on the route……no one left behind. Weather varies with the season, so dress in layers or apply sunscreen accordingly, and of course, wear a helmet. Bring plenty of beverage & snacks because much of our riding is in rural areas. Steady rain, thunder/lightning or
"feels like" temperatures below 40 degrees cancels. All cyclists welcome.

The Cape Fear Cyclists are planning a full weekend bicycling and indoor camping trip September 17-19, 2010. You are invited to join us for the fun, exercise, nature education & appreciation, friendship, food, relaxation and so much more.

Here’s the basic plan:

1) We will bicycle from the Battleship NC parking lot to Singletary Lake (approx. 45 mi.) on Friday afternoon, swim, eat dinner & enjoy social time together during the evening. (See web site above)

2) Saturday morning we will ride the “Singletary Solitary” loop of about 55 miles with an optional addition to make a metric century. (Those joining the event on Saturday morning need to arrive by 9 a.m.)

3) Afternoon & evening options include swimming, an educational ranger walk/talk, relaxing, shorter riding excursions, mountain biking, kayaking or canoeing, volley ball, basketball, horseshoes, fishing, swimming, group dinner, games, social time, campfire, marshmallow roast and songfest.

4) Sunday morning we have some short optional rides available or further exploration of the local area & activities. Group departure after lunch will follow a portion of the “White Lake Marathon” loop & then pick up our route home to the Battleship NC parking lot.

Other considerations:

1) “Guesstimated” Cost = $35 (More participants lowers cost per person for cabin rental, food -2 dinner, 2 lunch, 2 breakfast- & beverages …excess to be refunded.)

2) Brunswick County Pedalers will be joining us.

3) WE NEED… at least 2 SAG WAGONS/HELPERS, primarily to carry participants’ luggage plus group food & beverage supplies.

4) We have permission from the Battleship NC Director to park some cars in an assigned area. If you are parking there, please indicate on application. Sheriff will check lot periodically.

5) Yes, we know there will be questions about driving to the site instead of biking. Let us know your intentions on the application, or call Bethel Paris at 256-2377 psubiker@bellsouth.net.

6) We will be sharing chores such as cooking & clean-up in a cooperative manner.

7) Print out application form as a Word document or application form as a PDF document, complete, & submit with check.

8) Details regarding what to bring, group plans & schedule, etc. will be communicated to those who register.

9) Print out a biking/driving map of NC Battleship to Singletary Lake route.

10) Print out ride route maps:

CFC Tuesday Morning Ride From Lowes North Of Hampstead (8:30AM - 11:30AM)

CFC Tuesday Morning Ride From Lowes North Of Hampstead

Everyone needs to plan on arriving 15 minutes before the ride is scheduled to ROLL OUT.

Meet ready to ride at 8:30 a.m. in Lowe's Home Improvement Store parking lot about 7+ miles(?) north of Hampstead Center on right, along Rte. 17 (210), just before Rte. 210 splits heading east. We will ride Topsail Island & Snead's Ferry (or South Topsail Island, depending on wind direction). The rest stop is about half way. Since this is a distance to drive for some of our riders, please call me if you are interested in arranging a 2-3 person car pool from near your home. I will try to coordinate people, locations, & bike racks. Also, since weather can easily be a factor, if in doubt, e-mail or call me Monday.
