Known around the world as the "Beast of the East," The Assault on Mt. Mitchell is one of road cycling's most intense, rewarding, and beloved century rides. Following the course first ridden in 1975 by Freewheelers Club member John Bryan, The Assault on Mt. Mitchell spans 102.7 miles, beginning in downtown Spartanburg, South Carolina, to the famed Blue Ridge Parkway, and finishing at the summit of Mt. Mitchell, the highest peak in the Eastern United States. In total, you'll climb more than 10,000 vertical feet from start to finish. It's for this reason (and more!) that more than 800 riders from across the Western hemisphere test their skill and their will each spring in the Carolinas' beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.
