CAPE FEAR CYCLISTS

Volunteers Needed to help with:

Ironman 70.3 North Carolina 2024

Saturday October 19, 2024

What:

CFC has a long history of helping with the biking segment of the Ironman Triathlon held every year in Wilmington. The Ironman 70.3 Triathlon includes a 1.2 mile swim at Wrightsville Beach; 56 mile bike ride finishing downtown Wilmington; and a 13.1 mile run, finishing near the Convention Center.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Cape Fear Cyclists have been assigned two jobs, requiring 11 volunteers:

    * Bike Dismount - 2 shifts of 4 people each (9:30a-12:30p; 12:00p-2:30p)

Remind athletes that it is time to dismount before the line. A fun job because the athletes are happy to be off their bikes. CAUTION: This is when accidents happen. Must be vocal and energetic!

    * Bike Penalty Tent - 1 shift of 3 people (9:30a-1:30p)

volunteers will have stopwatches to hand anyone who rolls in with a penalty and will just make sure they stay in the tent until the time is up. There will be an Ironman staff person assisting with this and giving detailed guidance, too. No knowledge of the rules or penalties is necessary!

Location/Parking

The bike dismount area, also called Transition 2, or T2, is downtown Wilmington, just north of the Convention Center, near Brunswick and North Front St. Parking will be at CFCC’s Lot L, at Walnut and 2nd St. I will send you a parking pass, and bring extras. I will meet you at the parking lot on race day for a briefing, and walking to the bike dismount area.

I am the team captain and appreciate your volunteering for this event. I have volunteered for the past number of years and have enjoyed the experience. The jobs are easy but important to help ensure a safe event. And the athletes appreciate our help and encouragement. I will contact you with updates, respond to your questions and chase down issues.
