2015 Tour De Blueberry Recap

We hope everyone enjoyed the 2015 Tour de Blueberry! Overall, it was a great day for most everyone that rode the course. We were fortunate that the temperatures were seasonally very warm but not extreme and our home base for the Tour was in air conditioned Burgaw Middle School! We had a lot of novice riders with us and a number of riders that worked hard to finish their goals. Kudos to them!

All Cape Fear Cyclist volunteers who put on the 2015 Tour de Blueberry are heartily commended. They provided breakfast, snacks, T-shirts, aid stations, refreshments, cue sheets/maps, ride leaders, SAG and more. This event grows every year and your CFC volunteers worked diligently to make this year’s tour as positive an experience for our riders as possible. We had approximately 35 volunteers take part in presenting the Tour de Blueberry. This year’s tour saw over 500 riders including 20 Warrior Riders, some of whom are training for the International Paralympics!

Other 2015 Tour de Blueberry highlights: Brandon Davis with Cottage Wattage provided complimentary cycling assistance and repairs before, during and after the ride; Lindsey Raymond, LMBT, gave massages for athletes and contributed her earnings back to the Cape Fear Cyclists and P.T.’s Grill Food Truck dished up hundreds of hamburgers and lunch fixings. The Hampstead Hams, HAM Radio operators, also assisted on the routes as part of our support team this year!

We saw vintage bikes, adaptive bikes, sleek bikes and weathered bikes. We hosted really fast cyclists and our “smell the roses” riders. This year’s Tour hosted cyclists from at least 5 states and riders from other cycling clubs in N.C. Quintessentially, the 2015 Tour de Blueberry consisted of a very friendly, enthusiastic and diverse group of participants.

Apart from providing a fun venue outside in beautiful scenery, the main purpose of the 2015 Tour de Blueberry is to offer an affordable, recreational cycling experience made accessible to all persons. The Tour de Blueberry net proceeds are distributed annually to help promote our local parks, provide cycling education, improve trails, support cycling volunteer efforts and encourage the recreational use of our area amenities. This year we raised approximately $6,000.00 that will be given back to our community.

Please be sure to thank our sponsors, supporters and volunteers who collaborated on the 2015 Tour de Blueberry. Please consider being active in the CFC 2016 Tour de Blueberry and becoming a sponsor!
